Canadian Oil & Gas History Highlights

1937

Carl O. Nickle, Nov 13 - "The Alberta oil industry is passing through a transition period working a hardship on all investors who have put their faith in it. However, a major crude field has already been developed; production is increasing far more rapidly than observers anticipated, the industry is proving itself capable of supplying for a long period all or much of Canada’s oil needs and a solution for the industry’s problems may be confidently expected before many months have passed."

1938

Carl O. Nickle Dec 31 - "Oil has been hampered, frustrated and fought. It has found a champion in a Social Credit government and a ‘Prove-yourself-first’ attitude and apathy from the Ottawa administration. Wake up Canada! Is the plea of Alberta Oil to the nation. Open your markets in this New Year. Encourage an industry that can pave the way to Security for the Empire, help balance budgets, pull your railroads out of the red and add millions of dollars to the national pocketbook. Look at the record, then try to slumber on."

1939

Carl O. Nickle March 22 - "Oil, like the wheat that must feed the masses, must be obtained to feed the instruments of destruction. War cannot be waged without it. Air, sea and land fleets would be useless as kiddy-cars without a constant supply of petroleum. Just as wheat prices soar upward in time of general conflict, petroleum prices will likely rise high above peacetime levels. Oil, a key economic factor in times of peace, is more precious than gold in time of war."
