January 21 First Canadian Petroleum Exposition scheduled for July 11-16; organized by industry as a self-supporting, non-profit undertaking, the Expostion is expected to be the largest display of oil industry ever attempted in Canada
March 1 Western Canada's oil industry receives news of Ottawa's proposed Northern Mineral Development Loan plan; $3 million will be made available per year to pay 40% of approved exploration projects and repayments will be required only if minerals are found in commercial quantity
April 12 Prudential Steel, a new Canadian firm, announces plans to build a pipe mill at Calgary for the 2-8 inch pipeline market
