1964 Highlights

January 20 Alberta revenues from oil and gas set a new record in 1963 with $139 million received from land sales, rentals and royalties
February 17 Alberta Oil and Gas Conservation Board approves an increase in Trans Canada Pile Lines' (TCPL) gas export permit by 3.15 trillion cubic feet and recommends TCPL be allowed to remove 9.64 trillion cubic feet until Oct 31, 1989
April 13 Alberta approves construction of the $190 million Great Canadian Oil Sands project
May 22 Golden Anniversary of Dingman discovery well
June 12 Peter Bawden, president of Mountain Pacific Pipe Line, proposes $47 millin gas liquids pipeline from Edson to Port Moody, B.C.
July 29 Sun Oil Company assembles land in east-central Saskatchewan and west central Manitoba in huge oil shale play, announces exploration program
August 17 Net cash income from oil and gas totalled $41.4 million in 1963 the first time the Western Canadian industry broke into the black since 1947; net cash expenditures exceeded gross income in all previous years, accumulating a $1.6 billion deficit
November 5 TCPL announces plan to build a 989-mile gas pipeline from Emerson, Manitoba, through the U.S. and then back to Sarnia, Great Lakes Gas Transmission Company will operate the line
