January 2 Petroleum and natural gas displaced liqour as the Alberta government biggest single revenue source in 1949
February 16 Four new records were set in the Alberta oilpatch in 1949: oil production (20.24 million barrels), oil and gasoline revenues ($58 million), footage drilled (3.21 million feet) and well completions (788)
July 3 DOB headline reads "GOSH, HOW THE MONEY ROLLS IN", two and half years after Alberta sets up Crown reserves for oil and gas rights and leasing for a cash bonus, the treasury take passes the $47 million mark
July 25 Western Canadian Petroleum Association announces plans to go on the air in fall and bring the dramatic story of oil in Western Canada to radio listeners on the Prairies
October 14 Oil from the Redwater field starts moving across half a continent by pipeline, by early December over 1.8 million barrels of Alberta crude will be in the 1,127 mile Interprovincial Pipe Line and the first oil will be in storage tanks in Superior, Wisconsin
December 4 First oil lands at Lakehead terminus of Interpovincial Pipe Line
